This Donaldson safety filter is designed for use with the large Donaldson FPG radial air cleaner housing and serves as a critical backup layer of engine protection.

Safety filters are designed to protect the clean side of the intake system if the primary filter becomes damaged, improperly installed, or contaminated. They also help prevent dirt and debris from entering the intake during primary filter servicing.

Unlike the primary filter, the safety filter is designed to plug rapidly if contamination bypasses the main filter. This acts as an early warning sign that there may be an issue with the intake system or primary filter setup.

For proper maintenance, Donaldson recommends replacing the safety filter every third primary filter replacement unless the primary filter has failed or contamination is present.
